Project Six
Part 1:At the beginning of the semester I think I wasn’t that prepared for the first paper. Even though I did pretty well on it, I still think that I could have done more. It was a different writing style than I was used to writing, but I feel more comfortable writing with rhetoric. I find it to be more interesting than I had thought the class would be, I found it to be most helpful and interesting.
When writing or reading analytical or critical strategies feel like I am still developing. It’s not the easiest thing to figure out at first but I feel I did well with it in my first paper. It took me a minute to understand what I needed to accomplish, but with time and effort it became easier along the way. I now find myself reading deeper into texts with my new note taking strategies, it seems easier to get what the author is actually trying to convey to the readers. I find it very helpful and more useful, key concepts and actual meanings seem easier to pop out to me now. It saves me from reading the paper three or four times over.
Part 2:
The writing process is now my best friend. I was in English 1010 before 1020 and I have still yet to see how I passed that with the low grades that I was given for each of my papers. The tools that where given to me, hell a whole tool box was given to me and it helped me expand my mind to a new way of writing skills. I still today have issues with centralizing my ideas, and thesis, I still have some time to go but I know I will reach my potential within time. I have also learned how to extend papers by doing good research and looking past my own views but the views of others. I find t easier to make sure the ideas are smooth flowing and creditable. Ethos, Logos, and Pathos seemed to really help at the beginning of the semester and still today help out when writing my paper. Feedback is always a best friend when coming from either another student or Professor; it helps make ideas become more clear and structure a paper better. The writing process is an easy task to follow and makes papers a ton easier to write.
Part 3:
Rhetoric, Rhetoric, Rhetoric… I still find it to be the most useful but most frustrating thing I have ever played with in an English class. It was a new learning experience that I have enjoyed the last few months. It was honestly a new thing to me I have always known of persuasion but not how rhetorical It was. It was a pain in the ass, but now as I look around me it is everywhere, I see it on TV, the newspaper, books, and in everyday activities. It forms far better arguments and helps back up papers with excellent evidence.
In project one; I had the topic “Above the Influence”. Rhetoric helped me fully understand what the teen commercials were actually trying to convey to its audience. Whether it being a positive or negative influence, it still had a message and gave a valid reason behind it. In project two; I read the book “Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs” the author gave similar or everyday arguments that applied to everyone’s lives but had no sense to giving a valid reason as to why his arguments where good. Even in Project three I had to persuade my audience to believing that my definition of the professional athlete was different than what it is seen to be. All arguments have a rhetorical background to them. It just happens to be everywhere.
Part 4:
Research to me is always interesting when writing a paper. I find it to be the best part because your able to expand your knowledge on a particular subject. When writing all of my projects, I find more information out than I have before, even when I’m a constant sport junky, you can always learn something new. I have learned that researching is very easy when you look in the correct places. Google scholar happens to be a very good tool when researching for a project, the Wayne State online library is also a valuable tool. Also when you find blogs on certain topics that you happen to be researching is also helpful, it helps get you to see other opinions on topics to either prove points that you have made or give insight on others ideas that you may have not known about.
When researching finding credible resources are always hard to find, you may come across John Doe opinions when you’re looking for someone who knows what they are talking about. But that is the reason why it’s called research. It’s the most useful tool that you can come across. Also it’s a valid tool that will always be apart of any writing process, it will always take your thoughts to a new level and expand your mind to new and exciting things.
Part 5:With project 4/5 I used the tools that I had picked up all through the semester. I was attempting to convince an audience of sporting fans that athletes were overpaid, and with that over payment, they were using the money for matters that kind of hurt themselves. I wanted the audience to know that some of the money could have been donated to good causes and helped out many children, my project 4/5 I think helps show that I did decent research to show that. I was able to incorporate in my paper how many sports athletes were spending money wrongly and wisely like Tim Hortons Camp day for kids and how Justin Verlander wanted people to buy his box of cereal to put more money into his own pocket. Other challenges with this was keeping my own opinion out of the paper and making sure I had god credible evidence to support my topic.Part 6:The wiki happened to be the easiest way in the world to have a class. I thought the damn thing was going to be so freaking hard to use but turned out to be the best. I love it and it was easy and I plan to use it in the future. I found the wiki to be very useful to organize and store all the papers we had over the semester, it kept my backpack nice and tidy. Also I found it easy to help me want to expand my horizon and use other web tools like weebly to do my project six.
I can also say that I never knew of Google scholar. It’s very simple and easy to use. It helped send you straight to what your researching and faster to use. It helps pinpoint all your topics. I really found this class to influence me highly on using technology more to work on projects and keep better track of information.
